How to Bake a Holiday Fruitcake
Are you looking for a delicious and festive dessert to serve during the holiday season? Consider baking a traditional holiday fruitcake! Fruitcakes are rich, moist, and filled with a variety of dried fruits, nuts, and warming spices that make them perfect for celebrating the winter holidays.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups mixed dried fruits (such as raisins, cranberries, cherries, and apricots)
- 1 cup chopped nuts (such as walnuts, pecans, or almonds)
- 1 cup fruit juice or rum (for soaking the fruits)

- ½ tsp ground cloves
- ½ cup butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract

- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- In a bowl, combine the dried fruits and nuts. Pour the fruit juice or rum over the mixture and let it soak for at least 1 hour.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gently fold in the flour mixture until just combined, then fold in the soaked fruits and nuts.
- Pour the batter into a greased and floured loaf pan.
- Bake for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the fruitcake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Serving Suggestions:
Once your fruitcake has cooled, you can enjoy it as is or enhance it with a simple glaze or icing. You can also wrap it in parchment paper and aluminum foil to preserve its freshness. Fruitcakes taste best when they are allowed to mature for a few days, so consider baking your fruitcake in advance to allow the flavors to meld together.
